Installation Issues

    32-bit or 64-bit MS Excel?
  1. Please open your Excel program and click on
  2. File > Help
  3. Look on the bottom right of screen you will see the version info.
  4. Under the version info, it is indicated if you are running the 32-bit or 64-bit version of MS Excel.
    Windows does not allow installation
  1. In case, you need to login, you should login as administrator to install the software. While you are logged in as administrator, you should give access to the software to all users that are allowed to use the software. For doing this, click on Windows "start" button, select "Program" then select "Thermo Utilities" folder and then right click with mouse, select properties, select security, among the following options for the user (Full Control, Modify, Read& Execute, Read and Write) select "Full Control" and push "OK" button.
  2. Some anti-virus software prevent new software installation. This feature should be turned off prior to installation.
    After opening the spreadsheet, Excel or Windows crashes
  1. You need to install service pack for Windows.
  2. You need to install service pack for Office.
  3. You need to set up links to XLA files you use. In Excel you click on menue "Tool" and select "Option" then "add-ins". The XLA files are under C:\THERMOXL Next time you open Excel, the add-ins will be linked automatically.
    Fuctions return zero
  1. Demo versions return zero for many functions. However, there are a number of functions that work at all times. These can be used for verification.
All software packages distributed by Taftan Data contain a "readme.wri" file with necessary information to use the software. We usually include other files such as "excel.wri" or "example.xls" if the application or utility has support for MS Excel. The application specific help is always under the help button. Ms Excel worksheets:

  1. single-stage steam turbine, about 8 kb.
  2. steam valve/throttling process, about 13 kb.
  3. feed-pump, about 9 kb.
  4. condenser design, about 13 kb.

All MS Excel files are generated by version 5.0c but there should be no problem opening them with higher versions. If there are problems with Microsoft Excel 97, please check if you have installed Office 97 Service Release 1 (Office 97 SR-1).

Additional files for registered users of Air & Exhaust Gas Properties

MS Excel worksheets:

  1. properties of humid air, about 6 kb
  2. combustion of solid fuel, about 10 kb
  3. compressor, compression process with known isentropic efficiency, about 16 kb
  4. gas turbine, expansion process with known isentropic efficiency, about 15 kb

All MS Excel files are generated by version 5.0c but there should be no problem opening them with higher versions. If there are problems with Microsoft Excel 97, please check if you have installed Office 97 Service Release 1 (Office 97 SR-1).
